One of the last places you'd expect to find openly gay men is in the world of professional sports. But one athlete has broken this homophobic taboo by acknowledging his own sexual orientation: Billy Bean, a recently retired major league baseball player. In this interview in The Advocate, Bean discusses his coming-out process, and offers his views and advice on being gay while participating in team sports. Athletics are one of the last bastians of unchallenged anti-gay sentiment, but Bean and others like him may help chip away at those regressive attitudes.
