On the Contrary...

When I want unconventional wisdom in my investment commentary, I turn to David Dreman's "The Contrarian" column at Forbes Online. Dreman isn't one to be suckered in by the latest bit of hype being bandied about in the mainstream press. Instead, he offers sober-minded analysis and clear-eyed commentary. In this week's column, The Contrarian takes a close look at three prominent companies being traded publicly at varying degrees of value: stolid General Electric, soaring Amazon.com, and stagnant Freddie Mac. Guess which of the three Dreman is most enthusiastic about long-term? Hint: it's not the obvious choice. Those looking for glib puffery about the "dot-com revolution" are advised to look elsewhere; but if you're seeking sensible advice on where to profitably sink your money, you may have just found a kindred spirit.
