Top » Science Fiction & FantasyFeminist Science Fiction, Fantasy and UtopiaSite: http://www.wenet.net/~lquilter/femsfWait, fellows, before you ignore this review...feminism in SF may not be what you think. This site examines non-sexist SF, and the wealth of worlds that women (and woman-friendly men) have created and written about. Science fiction has long been perceived as a male domain, with male writers, readers and characters. In the early days of SF, women who wrote in the genre published their work under male pseudonyms (James Tiptree Jr. comes to mind) or under their initials. But if you've ever been to an SF convention, you know the femfans involved frequently outnumber the men. This is not a male-bashing site, nor even a male-unfriendly one; it features writing that examines gender issues and advocates equality, as well as works that portray women in strong, capable, or unusual roles. Feminism is about challenging notions of gender that are *not* based on truth. The site contains excellent bibliographies for readers, a respectable reference section for researchers, links, and excellent information for writers who wish to avoid sexual bias in their work.
