Point and Clique

After witnessing the horror at Columbine High, a lot of teens began taking a long, hard look at school cliques. As this article points out, membership in a clique dramatically increases your risk of violent behavior. Among the "high-risk" cliques identified in the piece are street gangs, stoners, and rappers. These findings are especially chilling because they suggest that socialization is not always a socially productive solution to such common teen problems as isolation and depression. Socializing in the wrong way, or with the wrong people, it seems, can lead to problems of its own. Fascinating reading.
