Good things come in small packages

What do you need for a vineyard? Space, of course, to grow the vines, and a mild climate with lots of sun to ripen them. And somewhere to press, ferment, bottle, and store the wine. So if all you have is an ordinary small house in a city rated as the coldest in the world, you'd stand no chance. Jeff Chorniak didn't think so. He lives in Ottawa, Ontario, in Canada where temperatures fall to -30C in winter. Jeff planted Cabernet Franc vines on a patio 4x18 feet, and made a winery in his cellar. His website has the story of his Africa Rex vineyard and winery, with a picture diary following the planting of the vineyard though to vintage. This site is an inspiration to anyone who hankers to pull the cork from their own wine.
