Need a fun way to introduce your kids to the basic principles of boating safety? This downloadable coloring book from the U.S. Coast Guard may be just the ticket. Okay, it's hokey, in a 1950s instructional film reel kind of way--lots of smiling, jut-jawed white guys and women with bouffant hairdos. And some of the pictures are kind of disturbing--the ominous drawing of a floundering boy surrounded by shark fins and bearing the legend "Don't Swim Alone" may frighten younger children. But if your child loves to color she may just pick up a few pointers that could save her life in a dicey situation.
