Dave Rusin presents an excellent offering if you have on occasion found yourself wondering about the connection between music and math. The site's a bit on the intellectual side, but if you're up for that, you will likely learn something here. Dave is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Northern Illinois University, and his objective approach is apparent in his writing. He discusses the reasons why music is mathematically based, as well as the "Mozart Effect." With music precariously positioned in the educational curriculum of our youth, the debate over whether it enhances intellectual performance has been in vogue. Recent findings of some studies on this issue are discussed here as well.
