Top » Music: Country & Folkcountry music history, multimedia styleSite: http://www.roughstock.com/historyAlthough country music's all over the charts nowadays, its history is at least as dynamic as its present. If you want to bone up on the illustrious past of this musical genre, head on over to Roughstock's History of Country Music. A fantastic resource, this site covers country from its beginnings in the 1920s and '30s, to the New Country of Garth Brooks and other at the end of the twentieth century. Each era's text includes a detailed profile of several prominant artists (such as Bill Monroe, an epitomizer of bluegrass), along with a fantastic collection of RealAudio clips going back to a 1920's tune recorded by Jimmie Rodgers. There are even a few videos here, including an all-too-brief one of the Carter Sisters. This site may not be the last word on country history, but for inquisitive minds it's a great place to start.
