According to no less an authority than John Morse, publisher of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, "Internet" is the defining noun for the '90s. "No other word has gained such widespread acceptance so quickly," said Morse of Internet, which made it into the dictionary in 1998, just four years after it started to appear regularly in print.
