Rough Sledding for Baby Bells?

Site: http://www.techweb.com/wire/story/TWB19991222S0011

Ah, freedom. Terrible, terrible freedom. Now that the FCC has granted Bell Atlantic permission to re-sell long-distance service to its customers in New York, it's expected that other "Baby Bells" will follow suit and re-enter the LD market. But do they know what they're in for? Perhaps not, argues Margie Semilof in this article for CMP's Techweb. In the 16 years since the break-up of AT&T, a lot has changed in the telecom industry. The Internet has spawned a host of new new resale channels, including auctions, aggregators, and exchanges, which may well undercut Bell Atlantic if it sticks to the conventional "pay-per-minute" model. Can the newly unshackled Baby Bells compete in the millennial marketplace? We'll all find out soon.
