One of the lamentable by-products of smoking's declining social acceptability was the demise of the once-flourishing collectible cigarette card industry. Jonathan Richardson's Cartophily site focuses specifically on golf-themed cards, included in cigarette packs around the turn of the 20th century. He does a good job explaining the origins and development of these cards, which feature some unique and charming old-time illustrations. Richardson also provides links to other golf card sites and promises to provide a free price appraisal for any budding collector who queries him by e-mail. Even if you don't own any of these cards, this handsomely-maintained page is worth your time.
