harlem's great day

A few years ago, a terrific documentary film made the rounds of art houses, festivals, and award shows. It was called A Great Day in Harlem, based on the classic 1958 photgraph of 57 seminal figures in American Jazz. If you caught the film, lucky you! But even if you didn't, you'll get a real kick out of the Great Day in Harlem website. Admire the reproduction of the image, then click on an section for (unfortunately brief) biographies of all the artists pictured. The site's small, but truly evocative of an era gone by.
