activist grandparents made a difference

Visitation rights for grandparents have been getting a fair amount of media attention lately--and perhaps in response to the recent buzz, Salon has published an interesting article in support of grandparent visitation. Interestingly enough, the story is told from the grandchild's perspective: due to the turbulent, drug-addled nature of his parent's marriage, Damian Cave's childhood was a haze of kidnapping, custody battles, and unanswered questions. And it was his grandparents who eventually stepped into the void to provide the emotional support and shared experience that were the happier moments of Cave's growing up. Whether or not visitation legislation concerns you directly, this article is an interesting and inspiring read. As Cave puts it, "life without [his] grandparents would have been a lesser life."
