The next step: DVD recorders

It was only a matter of time. As Yoshiko Hara reports for EE Times, Pioneer has just released a DVD-format video recorder. Each side of a recordable disk sports 4.7 gigabytes of space, and disks can be rewritten at least 1,000 times--pretty good specs considering the product is just out of the box. Some compatablitiy issues still need to be worked out, but company president Kaneo Ito learned his lesson with his less-successful laser disk venture, and will certainly make sure that the remainig conflicts are dealt with swiftly. The only catch? The technology is currently only available in Japan. Which leaves you with one important question: got enough frequent-flyer miles?
