All Hail the Godfather

Now let us praise funky men. If you're a fan of old school soul, you'll want to print out and frame this landmark resolution, passed by the Georgia House of Representatives in 1997, commending--in its own words--"the Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown." The two-page document contains ten "whereas" clauses spelling out the many reasons why James Brown should be honored by his home state. You'll want to memorize them all, but just by way of summary, here's an excerpt: "Whereas, born right here in Augusta, Georgia, James Joe Brown, Jr., known as Mr. Dynamite, the Godfather of Soul, the minister of the new super heavy funk, the hardest working man in show business, and Universal James, is a living legend...it is only fitting and proper that Georgia recognize and commend one of its very favorite native sons." Damn straight! And should have done so a lot sooner, too. Howwwwwww!
