Jazz today's great, but wouldn't it have been terrific to have been around to witness the music style's growth and movement from New Orleans to Chicago in the twentieth-century's early years? For those of us born too late, there's the Red Hot Jazz Archive. Read the brief history on the site's home page, then move through to the artist biographies. Each short profile (of gone-but-not-forgotten stars like Buddy Bolden, Joe "King" Oliver, and, of course, Louis Armstrong) includes a photo and scores of links to related performers' pages, along with a bibliography of suggested readings. Poke around for while, too, and you'll uncover wonderful audio clips from rare 1920s recordings. Authoritative, sharply-written, and nicely interfaced, the Red Hot Jazz Archive will provide you with some well-spent, jazz-loving moments.
