HIGH DEFINITION TELEVISION EXPLAINED

Site: http://www.apsnw.com/hd/HDDefined.htm

Within six years, your current TV set will be obsolete (at the very least you will have to buy a converter to be able to use it). You keep hearing about HDTV (High Definition Television) and DTV (Digital Television), but what exactly are they and why should you care? This article, reprinted from Online Magazine, does a pretty good job of explaining the complexities of what's coming in the next 6 years. Written by Ed McNichol, a Digital Editing Specialist, it does contain a few sections that are of interest only to other editors, but there's enough general information to be valuable to everyone. In his conclusion, Mr. McNichol writes. "There is going to be a great deal of confusion as this country migrates towards DTV. It is imperative that efforts be made to better educate the public about what this transition involves." This is one such effort.
