What's in a Name?

Say goodbye to the DVD Video Group. And long live the DVD Entertainment Group! In a move designed to reflect the expanding capabilities of DVD technology, the 21-member industry trade organization has renamed itself, according to this bulletin from This Week in Consumer Electronics. In addition, five new members--BMG Entertainment, EMI Recorded Music, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group--have joined the rechristened group's ranks. The DVD industry plans to embark upon a major promotional push for its new audio disc formats, Super Audio CD and DVD-Audio, in the coming year, and it apparently believes the old name was holding it back.
