ID3 TAGS EXPLAINED

As you play your MP3 files, more often than not, data such as band name, album title, song title and other relevant information about the track is displayed within the player environment. If you've ever ripped and encoded your own MP3 files, you know a little bit about how that information gets there. This website goes to great lengths to explain current and possible uses of the ID3v2 tagging system. For example, if your encoder supports the full ID3v2 standard, you can actually embed the CD cover art, lyrics and perhaps liner notes. The site offers both "low tech" and "mid tech" explanations, a peek into the private parts of the MP3, and for the programmer/developer, the C++ library files as a free download.
