The Wine of Kings

First made in the 1560's, its method of making was legally defined a hundred years later and its vineyards were defined centuries before France ever thought of appellations. It is the sweet Tokaji Aszu wine from Hungary. King Louis XV of France later called it "the wine of kings and the king of wines." Now quality winemaking is possible again after mismanagement during the communist era. Foreign investment is moving in and Hugh Johnson has a share in a vineyard.
