If you saw the movie, that phrase probably conjures up images of savage beatings, squalid conditions, and forced sodomy. But there's more to Turkey than just brutal prisons. This ancient land also boasts a rich tapestry of musical stylings, all of which are on display at this website. Unlike many such international music sites, this one doesn't just dump its many Real Audio clips into one undifferentiated pile. There are separate sections for Pop (two separate sub-headings cover the greatest hits of the '70s), folk, tavern music, marches, and so on. There are even samples from Turkish comedy recordings. To an untrained ear, these may all sound alike, but if you take the time to familiarize yourself with the nuances of Turkish music, you will find many treasures here.
