Here's an airy site devoted to the dominant Western musical style of of the seventeenth century. Start at the home page (an obvious choice), where you'll find a brief, chatty FAQ that'll get you up to speed on just what exactly "Baroque" refers to. Then, head on over to Information. There, you can find biographies (some painfully short) of many Baroque masters. The Instruments section, however, is wonderful, with detailed, photo-flecked descriptions of the instruments that composers of the style favored. Some useful links and audio clips (Bach only, unfortunately) complete the offerings at this unintimidating site. Stop by and take a look.
