The wild horse is considered to be a symbol of the American west. Sheryl Crow recognizes this and is taking part in a charity campaign to stop the US government from driving wild horses eastward from the western plains. The government claims it has to move the horses due to the vast amount of them grazing and the Nevada ranges cannot support them. Crow first came to know about this issue when she adopted a wild horse named Smokey from Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
