HIV Infection in US Black Population
HIV and the Black population, some unsettling news. A federal government study indicated that the prevalence of HIV infection in blacks ages 18 to 59 in 1991 was about five times higher than what was found in whites. In 2001, it had increased to 13 times that seen in whites. Black men ages 40 to 49 showed the highest increase, 3.6 percent of whom were infected with HIV according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
