Playbill.com has reported that Andrew Lloyd Webber is renaming the New London Theater the Gillian Lynne Theater.

Gillian Lynne was the choreographer of the original West End production of the musical Cats, which enjoyed a 20-year run. Webber, who owns the theater, stated, “Gillie’s groundbreaking work on Cats inspired and launched countless careers in dance. It is only fitting that the theatre in which she created Cats is named in her honour.”

Lynne will be the first person for whom a major West End theater is named after.
