Flippy is a robot fry-cook in CaliBurger, a California fast food restaurant. The goal of robots like Flippy is to create identical, consistent products.

Flippy was created by Miso Robotics and uses 3D camera vision to figure out the proper time to “flip” a patty. Flippy can detect the perfect size and temperature of a patty.

Flippy is meant to help restaurants cut costs as well as add consistency and safety to food production. The robot is not meant to take jobs away from people, but rather, to act as a “third hand” in the kitchen.

Currently, the minimum cost for a robot like Flippy is $60,000.
