Flint, Michigan has been without safe drinking water since 2014. Pipes in the city were severely corroded, leading to highly contaminated water with high levels of lead. The town even had to begin using the Flint River as their main source of water.
Will and Jaden Smith’s water company, JUST, had provided the town with 9,200 eco-friendly water bottles, but recently announced that they are going to offer an even bigger hand to the struggling community – they have vowed to donate water to the town each month.
The town government has set up water bottle distribution stations for its citizens until lead levels have lowered to an EPA-approved limit. A $100 million grant was awarded to the town in order to replace their water pipes, which is set to be completed in 2020.
